Exciting news for Windows Server Insiders as Microsoft has unveiled a new build of the upcoming Windows Server Long-Term Servicing Channel (LTSC) Preview.

This latest build, known as Build 26296, offers both the Desktop Experience and Server Core installation options for the Datacenter and Standard editions, along with the Annual Channel for Container Host, and the Azure Edition, which is exclusively for VM evaluation.

The company has announced that the latest build features refreshed branding for the upcoming version, Windows Server 2025. Testers are encouraged to reference the Windows Server 2025 preview when submitting reports on any issues. This build will be rolled out automatically for users who have Server Flighting activated.

This new build includes the Windows Server 2025 Security Baseline Preview, enabling testers to implement a variety of recommended security configurations for virtual machine (VM) roles directly from the Windows Admin Center.

The security baseline encompasses more than 350 configurations categorized into three groups: Domain Controller (DC), Member Server, and Workgroup Member.

Additionally, Build 26296 introduces the functionality for Windows Server 2025 preview users to download and set up Windows Admin Center directly from the Windows Server Desktop utilizing the in-OS application.

It’s important to take note of a couple of known issues, including a problem with the Sysprep tool, which is intended to generalize a Windows installation for imaging but isn’t functioning properly in the latest build.

Furthermore, the label for the most recent flight may mistakenly indicate Windows 11. However, upon selection, Microsoft clarifies that the package being installed is actually the Windows Server update.

In addition, Windows Server Update Services (WSUS) is set to be deprecated next year.
