This week, Microsoft rolled out non-security preview updates for Windows 11 under KB5060826 for versions 22H2 and 23H2, and KB5060829 for version 24H2. These updates come with a set of dynamic updates that enhance the Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE) and Setup binaries.
Dynamic updates aim to improve the Windows installation experience by including necessary fixes and updates that preserve language packs and features during the upgrade process. Notably, the updates are designed for existing Windows images before deployment.
The changelogs detail the following updates:
Setup Updates:
- KB5062233: Updates to setup binaries for Windows 11, version 24H2 and Windows Server 2025.
- KB5062197: Updates to setup binaries for Windows 11, versions 22H2 and 23H2.
Recovery Updates:
- KB5060843: Improvements for the Windows Recovery Environment for Windows 11, version 24H2 and Windows Server 2025.
- KB5061090: Enhancements to the Windows Recovery Environment for versions 22H2 and 23H2.
While recovery updates will automatically install via the Windows Update channel, setup updates must be downloaded and installed manually from the Microsoft Update Catalog.
