Microsoft Unveils New Preview Build of Windows Server 2025: What’s New?

Microsoft has recently unveiled a new build, version 26311, as part of the Windows Server Insider Program for Windows Server 2025. Unfortunately, this preview does not introduce any new features.

The company has not clarified in its announcement the specific purpose of build 26311 for Windows Server 2025, especially since it does not offer any enhancements compared to the previous preview build, version 26304.

Nonetheless, the earlier build brought a significant addition: Windows Defender Application Control for Business (WDAC). This feature incorporates various security enhancements for Windows Server 2025.

WDAC acts as a software-based security measure that minimizes the attack surface by creating a list of approved software that can operate on the servers. For Windows Server 2025, Microsoft has designed a standard policy that can be applied using PowerShell cmdlets, which is supported by the OSconfig security configuration platform from Microsoft.

In the recently unveiled preview build 26311, Microsoft has introduced the Windows Server 2025 Security Baseline Preview. This feature is designed to assist administrators in setting up security by offering a recommended security posture. It enables them to establish a tailored security baseline for their physical servers or virtual machines, utilizing over 350 preconfigured Windows security settings.

Additionally, a default policy has been created for this feature, allowing administrators to easily implement it on servers using OSconfig and PowerShell cmdlets.

The most recent build in the Windows Server 2025 Insider program is now ready for download through a variety of channels. However, it’s worth noting that this version may not be accessible in certain regions, and its support period extends until September 15, 2025.
