Windows Server 2025 is now available for general use. Microsoft has confirmed that the latest version of its Server operating system is a long-term servicing channel (LTSC) release, with support extending for a duration of 10 years, until October 2034.

The company highlights that Windows Server 2025 brings enhanced security features along with innovative hybrid cloud capabilities, all within a high-performance platform that is equipped for AI functionality.

Several notable features and enhancements are set to be included in Windows Server 2025:

Similar to Windows 11 24H2, Server 2025 will implement a new method for delivering updates known as checkpoint cumulative, ensuring users receive the latest improvements efficiently.

Microsoft has acknowledged three known issues that users should take note of. These consist of an English language-related bug occurring during installation, a complication for processors that have over 256 threads/logical processors, and a startup error termed ‘boot device inaccessible’ in iSCSI (Internet Small Computer Systems Interface) environments.

To address the CPU complication regarding high core counts, Microsoft suggests that users can circumvent the issue by restricting their number of cores to 256 or fewer.

Windows Server 2025 has been officially released and is available for download from the Volume Licensing Service Center (VLSC). For those interested in exploring its features, the Evaluation Center provides a complimentary 180-day trial of this server version.

Additionally, Microsoft has released a comprehensive list of supported CPUs for Windows Server 2025. This includes a range of modern Xeon processors, but it’s important to understand that a server-grade CPU is not strictly necessary for running Server 2025. Many contemporary Pentium, Core, and Athlon processors are likely to perform adequately.
