Another Windows update has caused significant trouble for users, particularly due to a bug in Windows Hello. Following Microsoft’s April 2025 security patch (KB5055523), users of Windows 11 24H2 and Windows Server 2025 have reported being locked out of their devices. This glitch affects those with Dynamic Root of Trust for Measurement (DRTM) or System Guard Secure Launch enabled, especially those utilizing the "Reset this PC" feature with the "Keep my Files" option.
After executing the reset, users attempting to log in may receive error messages such as “Something happened, and your PIN isn’t available” or “Sorry, something went wrong with face setup,” leaving them unable to access their accounts.
Currently, Microsoft hasn’t provided a full fix but has suggested temporary workarounds. Users can regain access by selecting the “Set my PIN” option on the login screen to re-enroll in Windows Hello. Alternatively, for those who prefer facial recognition, they can reconfigure it by navigating to Settings > Accounts > Sign-in options > Facial recognition.
While this workaround may help, the inability to log in with a PIN can be a source of panic for many users. This issue compounds other recent headaches related to KB5055523, including a fix for a bug that uninstalled Copilot on some PCs and a new safeguard hold that caused blue or black screen errors on devices running SenseShield’s sprotect.sys driver. Users are hopeful that a permanent solution will be available soon, despite the frustrating circumstances.
