Microsoft’s June 2025 Patch Tuesday has led to significant issues with the DHCP Server on Windows Server editions. Following the rollout of updates on June 10, IT administrators began reporting that systems running the latest cumulative updates for Server 2016, 2019, 2022, and 2025 experienced intermittent service failures of the DHCP service. This disruption hinders the allocation of IP addresses within local networks.
The problems were first highlighted by Bleeping Computer, which pointed to the updated Patch Tuesday documentation from Microsoft. They noted that the DHCP Server service might intermittently stop responding after installing the security update, impacting client IP renewals.
A Reddit user documented their experience on the r/sysadmin subreddit, explaining that after applying the update KB5061010, their DHCP server became unresponsive within 30 seconds. Many users echoed frustrations, lamenting the frequency of updates leading to server-related issues.
Microsoft has acknowledged the problem and indicated that a fix is forthcoming, expected within the next few days. As a temporary measure, server administrators can reboot the servers to restore DHCP services. Additional issues stemming from the June updates include concerns related to Noto fonts that could result in blurry text.
For administrators managing affected servers, the following actions are recommended:
- Closely monitor the status of the DHCP Server.
- Prepare for potential server reboots if DHCP fails.
- Stay alert for updates from Microsoft regarding the promised fix.
- Consider deferring updates on test systems until this problem is resolved.
