Microsoft has announced a significant upgrade option for Windows users, particularly as many have yet to transition to Windows 11. The tech giant revealed that approximately 500 million users have systems compatible with Windows 11 but are hesitant to make the switch. In response, Microsoft is enabling all supported PCs, including those running Windows 10, to download and install the latest Windows 11 feature update, known as version 25H2.
Despite ongoing technical issues, Microsoft is keen to streamline the upgrade process. For users interested in the update, they can check their system’s eligibility by accessing Settings > Windows Update and selecting ‘Check for updates.’ If the device qualifies, the option to download and install the new version will be available.
Microsoft is also implementing an auto-download feature for the Windows 11 25H2 update on select un-managed personal devices. This means that the update will automatically download in the background, allowing users to choose when to install it. As December progresses, many are anticipating the final Patch Tuesday updates of the year, which are expected to introduce several new features and improvements while addressing existing vulnerabilities.
For Windows 10 users who have not yet transitioned, the impending updates carry additional significance. With support for Windows 10 already concluded, any unresolved vulnerabilities will remain unpatched unless users are enrolled in Microsoft’s Extended Security Updates (ESU) program.
