Microsoft is continuously updating Windows 11, moving away from the traditional Control Panel and integrating new features directly into the operating system. A forthcoming modification includes the introduction of an "Advanced" section in Windows 11 settings, which is designed with developers in mind but will also be beneficial for ordinary users.
This new "Advanced" section is actually an enhancement of the existing "For Developers" page. Microsoft has revamped the interface, added new functionalities, and renamed the section. A Windows enthusiast known as @phantomofearth reported these changes, highlighting that the revamped page will become a central hub for various development features.
Key features of the new "Advanced" settings include:
- A toggle for long file paths
- Settings for virtual workspaces
- Integration of the File Explorer source code for more technical interactions
Currently, these features are accessible in the Windows Server 26403 build, but the "Advanced" page is not yet available to users by default. Activating it requires navigating through internal system identifiers.
Additionally, Microsoft plans to transfer some keyboard settings from the old Control Panel to the modern Settings app, aiming to further modernize the user experience in Windows 11 while reducing reliance on legacy interface elements.
This shift towards a more streamlined settings interface reflects Microsoft’s broader intentions to simplify user access to advanced features, although many users still prefer the simpler and traditional Control Panel.
Other recent updates suggest that Microsoft is also teaching the OS to understand user expressions better and has made decisions to remove features that kept older versions of Windows secure.
