Microsoft has recently been active in rolling out updates and features, particularly the Windows 11 24H2 update. However, the rollout has faced criticism from users, especially due to automatic downloads and a Group Policy bug.
Group Policy Bug Fix
Microsoft has acknowledged a Group Policy bug that has prevented some users from installing the Windows 11 24H2 update on systems running the earlier versions 22H2 and 23H2. The company recently announced that the update is now broadly available, but users managed by Windows Server Update Services (WSUS) were encountering the error code 0x80240069, effectively blocking the installation.
This issue was not a typical safeguard hold that Microsoft uses for critical problems but rather a unique bug affecting managed devices on specific networks. In response, Microsoft has issued a Known Issue Rollback (KIR) to help resolve this installation block.
Microsoft’s Response
The company stated:
Resolution: This issue is mitigated using Known Issue Rollback (KIR) for enterprise-managed devices. IT departments can rectify the problem by installing the following Group Policy:
Affected users are advised to check under Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates for the Group Policy name available for installation.
