Windows 11 Install Media to Always Feature the Latest In-Box Apps

Microsoft has updated the Windows 11 version 24H2 install media to come preloaded with the latest versions of in-box apps. This change eliminates the need for users to download updates immediately after installation, which often poses security risks due to older app versions being present at the time of setup.

According to Jerry Huang from Microsoft, users will enjoy a more secure and user-friendly experience right out of the box. This means that when installing Windows 11 or Windows Server 2025 using the refreshed media, the system will include the newest versions of essential apps without requiring immediate updates from the Microsoft Store.

The updated installation media will affect ISOs, virtual hard disks (VHDs), and Azure Marketplace images. Currently, numerous applications—such as Alarms & Clock, Calculator, Microsoft Store, and Windows Security—will be fully up-to-date upon installation.

This initiative aims to enhance security by reducing the time systems spend running potentially vulnerable versions of applications. In addition to improved security, this new approach is intended to save time and bandwidth for users who frequently perform installations, as the latest applications will be available immediately.

If you’re looking to take advantage of this update, you can download the new version of the Windows 11 installer through Microsoft’s Media Creation Tool or download the ISO directly from the Microsoft website.
